Our Story
Our story is an interesting one. We have been on both sides of the fence. We've had our main store destroyed by fire and lost everything. We have rebuilt, opened up 3 stores only to have a tornado come through town and all but level a 3 story building. We sold one of our stores requiring inventory appraisal and verification. We've worked for the insurance company and verified inventory. We have even purchased a building, remodeled it from top to bottom, set fixtures, stocked the inventory and were open for business in less than 4 weeks.
How we got into liquidations
We've been in liquidations since before we were married. Our Friday night dates were spent at a liquidation store. We both got hooked. After our marriage in 1974, we went to work at that same liquidation store. 9 years later, we opened our very own store in Baxter Springs, KS.
Growing and Expanding
Within a few months we opened the Columbus store in the Old Big Smith building on Pine Street. We were located there until a fire set by burglars on July 30, 1991 totally destroyed the newly remodeled building. We located another building in Columbus. With the help of the Columbus residents, who donated food, equipment, office space and good old country friendship, we totally remodeled the building from top to bottom. Teens from our church scrubbed, painted, laid carpet and helped stock fixtures so we could open. Employees volunteered their time to help us. We opened for business September 15, 1991. We are still in that same location.
Our 3 children, Neil, Michael and Christy, although married with families and jobs of their own, still help us, along with their spouses, from time to time.
We've been on both sides of the fence. We've been the insured with a loss sitting at the EUO, the company that is moving facilities, had goods damaged in transit and we've been on the insurance adjustor's side. So we know how you feel, what you want, what the insurance company, corporate office or bank wants. And we know how to get there- from Experience.
